The governor had previously declared a state of emergency due to extreme heat and drought conditions, with a statewide burn ban currently in place. In other news, an investigation is underway into pay raises approved by Chairman James Green, which were initially stalled until two council members changed their votes. The termination of Danny Gillane, a member of the Library’s Board of Control, is also being examined by attorneys. Cloud cover and fog are expected overnight, with the possibility of spotty showers and a cold front moving through on Friday. Temperatures will remain mild, and high pressure will bring mostly sunny skies for the weekend, with temperatures rebounding to the upper 70s and around 80 degrees by mid next week. Another front is expected to move through after that. Overall, the state is transitioning out of drought conditions and experiencing mild weather.

Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says it'll be mild and humid Thursday with mostly sunny skies for the rest of the week.

SUMMARY: The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced new highway projects in Northeast Louisiana for this year. The Highway Priority Construction Program for fiscal years 2024-2025 has begun, with upgrades approved for Highway 568 in Concordia Parish. The project includes milling, patching, and overlaying highways in rural areas that are currently in poor condition. Locals in the area are supportive of the initiative, as the poor road conditions have caused issues such as frequent tire damage. The estimated cost for this project is approximately $3 million. Additionally, bids for Highway 5 and LA Highway 900 will be released later this year.
