SUMMARY: The Washington Parish School System held an emergency school board meeting in response to an ongoing employee strike, which has disrupted classes and daily operations. Faculty and staff expressed their frustration at the meeting, emphasizing their need for better pay and retirement benefits. The district claims that employees have received raises since 1978, but records show otherwise. The district is looking for ways to cut costs and is also blaming the lack of local resources. They plan to consider proposals at the next school board meeting and will have a private meeting with picket line leaders.

No decisions were made Thursday night, the meeting was an opportunity for the board to hear directly from employees and teachers who are demanding a raise.
