Vermilion and Jeff Davis Parish vote new Sheriffs in office in Nov. 18 election
SUMMARY: Longtime Sheriff Mike Couvillion of Vermilion Parish is retiring, so Eddie Langlinais and Lance Broussard are in a runoff to succeed him. The sheriff's seat in Jeff Davis Parish is also open, with Ivy Woods and Kyle Miers in a runoff to replace the current sheriff.
Vermilion and Jeff Davis Parish both voting for new Sheriffs in the Nov. 18 election.

Weather: Rain and storms late Saturday night, blustery and cold Sunday
SUMMARY: Drive carefully in foggy conditions, warm and muggy weather expected early tomorrow with showers possible. Rain and storms expected tomorrow night and into Sunday morning, followed by dry, blustery, and cold conditions. Breezy afternoon with passing showers and temperatures near 80 degrees. Line of rain and storms moving through late Saturday night may bring locally heavier downpours, but will quickly clear out by Sunday morning. Rainfall totals expected to be up to one inch. Low end risk for severe weather with gusty winds and pockets of heavier rain. Winds picking up on Sunday with temperatures dropping significantly. Blustery and cold conditions expected into next week with temperatures near freezing on the North shore.
Meteorologist Alexa Trischler says it'll be warm Saturday and much colder Sunday with storms in between.

Local residents express concerns for flooding with expected storms this weekend
SUMMARY: Less than a week after flooding in New Orleans, residents express concerns about city's lack of preparedness for future flooding. One resident had to move their car to avoid flooding, while another was unable to save their car from the floodwaters. Lack of communication about the severity of the situation was highlighted. The city council is working on improving pumping stations, but the Office of Homeland Security assures that they are prepared to alert the public as needed. The national weather service is not anticipating any advisories at this time. Residents continue to be impacted by the lack of preparedness for flooding in the city.
