SUMMARY: Schools across the country are facing a severe teacher shortage as the new school year begins. The pandemic has only exacerbated the shortage, leading some districts to hire underqualified and uncertified teachers. This shortage has resulted in larger class sizes, making it difficult for students to catch up on pandemic-related learning loss. President of the National Education Association, Becky Pringle, worries that these challenges will drive even more teachers to leave unless there are significant changes. She emphasizes the need for adequate, sustained, and equitable funding for schools, as well as a change in culture to value and respect educators. However, at a recent Republican presidential debate, candidates blamed teacher unions for the education crisis.

SUMMARY: Chief meteorologist Chris Franklin reports that tropical moisture is bringing significant rainfall to South Florida, though no organized systems are present. An “invest” near Charleston has a low chance of developing. While there's currently nothing in the Bay of Campeche, early next week might see development as a wave from the Eastern Pacific moves over Mexico into the Bay. Over the weekend, no significant weather events are expected, but a potential system could later decrease rain chances by diverting moisture away. Franklin notes a trend towards less rain and anticipates a few very hot days ahead.

WWL Louisiana Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says Invest 90L has a low-end chance of development. The lack of moisture could decrease our rain chances.
