Support for local food bank

SUMMARY: Catholic Charities of is hosting an event called Construction, which is a canned food drive that supports the Food Net Food Bank. St. Thomas More High School has been organizing this event for the past 13 years, where each homeroom is challenged to collect a certain number of canned goods and build a structure based on a theme. The goal this year is to collect 18 to 20,000 cans. The community is asked to make monetary contributions to match the effort of the students. The deadline for contributions is Saturday, September 9th. Donations can be made online at the Catholic Charities of Acadiana website.

A cold front on Wednesday will bring drier air, making Thursday feel less humid. By the end of the week, another system will bring back humidity and the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday. Overall, the week will see fluctuating temperatures and some scattered showers, but nothing too significant.

McCracken, Rice Defeat Louisiana, 6-1

SUMMARY: On Saturday, Rice and Louisiana were tied in a three-game set, with the Owls looking to even the series. The game started off in Rice's favor with Manny Garza and Jack Riedel both delivering RBI hits in the first inning, giving them a 3-0 lead. Louisiana managed to score a run in the fourth inning, but Rice extended their lead in the seventh inning with Kyte McDonald hitting a home run. The final score was 6-1 in favor of Rice, tying the series at one game apiece.

J.D. McCracken tossed a complete-game six-hitter and Rice collected eight hits and took advantage of four Louisiana errors in a 6-1 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns before an announced crowd of 3,912 on Saturday at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field at Russo Park.
