Sunday night tropical update: Several areas in Atlantic worth keeping an eye on

SUMMARY: Although there have been tropical weather activities in the tropics, there is currently no threat to our area. However, there is a wave off of Africa that has a 90% chance of developing into a depression or tropical storm in the next week or so. If it develops, it may be named Lee. There is another spot that might develop as well, but it is likely to move farther north. The big global models show that the potential storm may eventually move north, away from our area. We are reaching the peak of hurricane season, but there are currently no threats to our area.

There are currently two tropical storms and two other areas to watch in the coming days in the Atlantic.

Two tropical storms, Gert and Katia, are swirling in the Atlantic Ocean, but they are expected to stay out at sea and eventually fizzle in the next few days.

Farther out, a tropical wave is emerging off of Africa. This spot (Invest 95-L) has a high chance of development in the next seven days. Long-range models develop it, but at this time, it doesn't appear to be a threat to the Gulf of Mexico. We'll let you know of any changes. Another wave will follow behind, but it looks like it will take a route to the north and stay out at sea.

Thursday 10 PM Tropical Update: Tracking Invest 92-L, More heat heads our way

Published

www.youtube.com – – 2024-06-20 22:23:25

SUMMARY: We are still experiencing the aftereffects of what was once Alberto, with the final advisory issued at 4:00 PM. Winds are strong but have decreased since yesterday. Water levels along the coast and lake are falling but will rise again with the mid-morning high tide, peaking in areas like Cadry and Grand Dial. Tides will increase through the afternoon and then recede. Another weather system in Northern Mexico may develop as it moves into the Bay of Campeche, but it is not a current threat. Another system, Invest 92, may briefly develop near Jacksonville or Coastal Georgia. The focus will shift to rising temperatures in the coming days.

Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin has the latest update on Tropical Storm Alberto and tracking Invest 92-L.

An area over land in eastern Mexico is expected to head into the Bay of Campeche and does have a medium chance of developing.

Invest 92-L might have a brief wind of opportunity to develop before it moves inland over either the Jacksonville area or coastal Georgia.

But neither of those pose a threat to us, our focus will be on the building heat over the next
couple of days.
