Secret recording of Catholic deacon’s backers offering $400k to child sex abuse victim

Mac McCalls, a victim in the case, came forward with rape allegations against prominent attorney VM Wheeler. McCalls was offered $400,000 by a local businessman, Rossel, to drop his claims against Wheeler. Wheeler had originally been accused of raping a child but pled guilty to a lesser charge. Wheeler died of pancreatic cancer in 2023. McCalls ultimately reached a settlement with Wheeler's estate for an undisclosed amount, showing other survivors that they can speak up and seek justice.
