Proposal postponed to have St. Tammany Parish Government oversee finances at the Coroner’s Office

SUMMARY: The proposal for the same parish government to oversee finances at the coroner's office has been postponed due to concerns about the troubling past of the coroner elect, Dr. Christopher Tape. The current coroner, Dr. Charles Preston, believes that the emergency meeting was a response to concerns raised by an investigation by David Hammer. However, one council member denied this claim. The proposal was postponed to allow for more research, and Dr. Preston believes it is a money grab by the parish government. The coroner's office and the parish are also in litigation over the use of surrounding land, which was mentioned by the parish's attorney during the meeting.

The parish's attorney mentioned that no one on council would be able to comment about the lawsuit.
