Nearly 200 guardsmen to support Arkansas tornado recovery | KTVE

SUMMARY: Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has assigned 186 Arkansas Army National Guardsmen to assist with tornado recovery efforts in Northwest Arkansas. The guardsmen will focus on traffic control in Rogers during the day, facilitating debris removal and securing damaged property. They will be present for at least 10 days, with the goal of ensuring safe power restoration. The mission may be extended until electricity is fully restored. Additionally, two soldiers will be distributing water at Piney Point Church until June 4. The 142nd Field Artillery Brigade, headquartered in Fayetteville, will lead the recovery efforts.

Guns, meth and fentanyl lands OK man 25 years in prison

SUMMARY: An Arkansas judge sentenced Allen Ray Thompson, a 32-year-old Oklahoma man, to 25 years in prison on June 12. Arrested on August 3, 2023, in rural Boone County, Arkansas, Thompson was found with over 10 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly 2,000 fentanyl pills, four firearms, and one stolen firearm. A previously convicted felon, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl with intent to distribute. Text messages indicated he was delivering drugs to Harrison area customers. Thompson’s sentence includes $2,000 in fines and a five-year supervised release term. The FBI, Arkansas State Police, and other agencies investigated the case.

St. Thomas More Catholic High swimmer to take part in Olympic qualifying trials

Marie has been swimming competitively with the support of her parents and coaches, including her father. She enjoys the community and camaraderie in the sport. Marie recently advanced to the Olympic team trial qualifiers in the 200-meter freestyle, an achievement she has been training for over a year. Although qualifying for the Olympics is challenging, she feels honored to compete at this level. The Olympic trials begin on June 15th in Indianapolis.
