Monroe man accused of assaulting father and holding him at gunpoint; arrested

SUMMARY: On February 8, 2024, Mark A. Cordova was allegedly involved in a disturbance at an apartment complex in Monroe, Louisiana. He was accused of assaulting his father and was arrested by the police. During the arrest, crystal methamphetamine and Xanax were found on Cordova’s person. The police also discovered a .22 caliber handgun in his bedroom. Cordova was charged with drug-related offenses, criminal damage to property, domestic abuse battery, and aggravated assault with a firearm. His bond was set at $122,500.

Monroe woman accused of stealing nearly $20K from handicapped victim; arrested

SUMMARY: Sharmeke Johnson Byrd has been accused of stealing funds from a victim’s bank account over a two-and-a-half-year period. The victim, who suffered from strokes and required assistance, hired a company to help. Byrd, an employee of the company, was tasked with taking care of the victim and handling her bills. However, the victim discovered that funds were being transferred from her account into Byrd’s account each month. Records from Byrd’s account confirmed the transfers, which were then used to pay for her car loan. Byrd admitted to moving the funds but claimed it was to cover expenses for the victim. She has been charged with Exploitation of the Infirmed.
