Inmate who escaped Arkansas prison captured in W. Va.

SUMMARY: Convicted child rapist Samuel Hartman, who escaped from an Arkansas prison work detail in August 2022, has been captured in a motel in Lewisburg, West Virginia. Three others who aided in his escape were also arrested. Hartman was serving a life sentence for the rape of his 14-year-old stepdaughter. His wife and mother fired shots at officers before fleeing to the Mississippi River on jet skis. Hartman’s capture was the result of coordinated efforts by law enforcement agencies in Arkansas and West Virginia. Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders commended the law enforcement officers involved in bringing Hartman to justice.

Hot Springs getting ready for solar eclipse | KTVE

SUMMARY: Hot Springs, Arkansas is preparing for the influx of more than 100,000 people expected to visit the town during the 2024 total solar eclipse. This is double the town's population. Hot Springs is one of only two national parks in the country that will be in the path of totality for the eclipse. The city-wide event will take place from April 4 to April 8, with various activities and viewing parties hosted by places such as Garvin Woodlawn Gardens and Oaklawn Racing and Casino. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet NASA officials and witness the eclipse.

Concordia Parish man receives additional charges during extortion investigation, detectives say

SUMMARY: On February 22, 2024, Nathaniel Lopez received additional charges after being arrested for extortion. The investigation revealed that Lopez allegedly contacted a victim through text messages, threatening them if they didn’t provide him with certain photos. Lopez allegedly drove by the victim’s home regularly and left threatening letters and photos inside their residence. He has been charged with offenses including stalking, cyberstalking, and extortion. The investigation is ongoing and digital evidence is being recovered. The case started when Lopez solicited funds from a victim under the pretense of helping trafficked children, but then threatened the victim and their family if they didn’t continue to make payments. Upon executing a search warrant at Lopez’s residence, items obtained using the extorted funds were seized, including firearms, a vehicle, cash, electronic devices, and bank cards.
