Hot but not too muggy through the weekend
SUMMARY: The weather forecast for the upcoming week shows little to no chance of rain, resulting in below average rainfall for the month of September. Current temperatures are in the middle to upper eighties, with a slight breeze from the east. The eastern part of the US has high pressure and a low pressure system in the Gulf, resembling a tropical system. However, it is unlikely to develop. Cooler air and a cold front are expected to move towards the area next week, bringing a chance of rain. The next seven days will see minimal changes in temperature. The drought monitor shows exceptional drought conditions in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. The area has received less than half the average rainfall for this time of year. The outlook for the rest of September predicts average precipitation, but not enough to alleviate the drought. The temperature outlook also shows above average temperatures. There is a low chance of a storm developing in the Gulf, but it is expected to bring rain along the east coast. Hurricane Nigel is not a threat to the area and is expected to weaken as it approaches Iceland. Overall, the forecast for the next seven days shows a steady pattern with a chance of rain next week.
Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford has the forecast at noon on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
