S&WB warns of reduced pumping ability ahead of expected storms this weekend
SUMMARY: The sewage and water board in New Orleans is warning about the potential for more flooding as heavy rain is expected again. They are currently operating at 60% capacity and are working on repairs to address power issues that have impacted their drainage system. The board's executive director is confident they can handle forecasted rain, but admits they lack redundancy for greater rainfall or power failures. Despite this, the upcoming weather system is expected to move through quickly, reducing the flood risk. A meteorologist also shared a forecast for more rain and storms, but with less severe potential for flooding compared to last week.
S&WB Leaders also said Turbine 5 is expected to have power by Dec. 15 and urge residents to remain vigilant and weather aware.
