SUMMARY: The White House is seeking an additional $4 billion in supplemental funding to address natural disasters, bringing the total to $16 billion. The Biden administration initially requested $12 billion, but recent events, including wildfires, flooding, and hurricanes, have increased the need for more funding. President Joe Biden has urged lawmakers to approve the funding, expressing confusion as to why some believe it is unnecessary. The total supplemental funding request is approximately $44 billion.

SUMMARY: Louisiana legislators are considering a bill to legalize concealed carry without a permit for anyone over 18 without a criminal record. Gun safety instructor Isaiah Stewart warns of the dangers of allowing untrained individuals to carry guns, as it could lead to chaos and potential disaster. Proponents argue it levels the playing field with criminals, whereas opponents, like the President of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, believe it will make communities more dangerous and hinder law enforcement efforts. Previous attempts to pass similar bills have failed, sparking a debate on the impact of such legislation on public safety in Louisiana.

“It makes any community and this community, that has that law, more dangerous than it makes it safe,” Rafael Goyeneche said.
