SUMMARY: Kyle Miers has been elected as the new sheriff of Jeff Davis Parish, winning 55% of the vote against incumbent Sheriff Ivy Woods in a runoff election. Miers, with 23 years of law enforcement experience, currently serves in the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office. Chad Woods won in Police Jury District 2 over Susette Mouton and will succeed John Marceaux. Andrew Benoit is set to become Ward 1 justice of the peace. Jeff Davis Parish voters also favored Kevin M. Berken for the District 7 Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) seat. Additionally, parishwide voters approved a 10-year half-cent tax for jail maintenance and a 10-year renewal of a 10-mill property tax for fire protection facilities and equipment in Fire District 5. In state runoff elections, the voters favored Nancy Landry for Secretary of State, Liz Baker Murrill for attorney general, and John Fleming for treasurer. Proposed constitutional amendments 1, 2, and 3 were accepted, while amendment 4 was rejected.

Teen arrested in home invasion, sexual assault – American Press
