SUMMARY: The Jeff Davis Electric Co-Op is revamping its transmission system, with plans for completion by June 2025. Two FEMA grants totaling over $4.2 million were announced by Sen. Kennedy's office but only cover a fraction of the $378 million cost. The overhaul includes new and upgraded substations and a stronger, simplified 230kV line to replace the damaged 69kV and 138kV systems from Hurricane Laura. Temporary power via generators, costing $4.5 million monthly, is in place until 2025. The project promises improved resilience against storms, fewer outages, and lower repair costs. Construction by Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group and Ernest P. Breaux Utility Services began in November 2023 with efforts to seek additional grant funding ongoing.
