SUMMARY: Thousands of people go through life believing that they are allergic to penicillin. However, studies, including one conducted at Vanderbilt University, prove that only 10 percent of them are actually allergic. One woman, Cathy Sparks, who had an immune disorder as a child, was told she was allergic to penicillin after developing a rash from taking it. However, she is now a grandmother of 12 and the penicillin allergy has been put on the shelf, as she is no longer considered allergic. Many patients have been falsely diagnosed with a penicillin allergy, leading to unnecessary use of alternative antibiotics.

Thousands of people go through life believing they are allergic to penicillin, but studies, including one just conducted at Vanderbilt University, prove that only 10 percent really are. Removing, or delabeling that penicillin allergy through testing means patients can take this critical antibiotic that's been around since 1932.

10 Commandments must now be in all La. public classrooms – American Press

Published

www.americanpress.com – Associated Press – 2024-06-19 20:35:26

SUMMARY: Louisiana is now the first state to mandate the display of the Ten Commandments in all public school classrooms, following a bill signed by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry. The law requires a poster-sized display with a context statement in classrooms from kindergarten to state-funded universities by 2025, funded through donations. Proponents view it as historically significant, while opponents, including civil rights groups, plan to sue, arguing it's unconstitutional and marginalizes non-Christian students. This move reflects a broader conservative agenda under the new GOP-led state government. Similar legislation has faced legal challenges and has not been enacted in other states.
