SUMMARY: The Tiger Island Fire in Louisiana is currently burning in pine plantations and is 50% contained. The affected acreage ranges from 32,000 to 38,000, and over 55,000 acres have been burned by active fires throughout the state. Hot and dry conditions are exacerbating the fire hazards, and there are threats of severe fires due to heat, low humidity, lack of rain, and wind gusts. Despite recent light rain, severe drought conditions persist, and a burn ban is still in effect. Residents are urged to refrain from activities that could ignite new fires and to treat ignition sources with extreme care.
