BREAKING: 5,000 acres on fire in Rapides, Vernon parishes – American Press

SUMMARY: Multiple fires have been reported in Rapides and Vernon parishes in Louisiana, resulting in over 5,000 acres being burned. One major fire near La. 113 and Ed Perkins Road in the Pitkin area has been deemed “out of control”. Mandatory evacuations have been issued for residents in several areas due to the wildfires, which have involved multiple fire departments and the U.S. Forestry Service. One fire was caused by a resident illegally burning during a statewide burn ban. Residents in a 5-mile radius of certain roads were advised to evacuate immediately.

SUMMARY: Judy Coe McInnis, aged 83, from Big Lake, passed away on February 18, 2024. Born in Lake Charles on February 12, 1941, and a 1959 LaGrange High School graduate, Judy was a majorette leader, part of the Homecoming Court, and recognized for her fashion sense. She married Jim McInnis, and after his law studies in New Orleans, they returned to Lake Charles, where Judy joined The Junior League and worked as a tax preparer. An adventurer and hostess, she enjoyed travel, games, and community. Judy is survived by her daughter, siblings, and granddaughters; a memorial service is set for February 24. Donations can be made to a chosen charity.
