www.americanpress.com – Crystal Stevenson – 2024-04-16 11:02:01

SUMMARY: Nathaniel Mitchell III's life sentence for the murder of Zacchaeus Hakim Burton in 2019 will remain. Mitchell killed Burton and burned his body in DeQuincy, a fact supported by co-defendant George Buck's testimony and corroborating evidence such as phone records and surveillance. Mitchell bought a gun before committing the crime, as testified by Buck. Despite claims of trial errors and ineffective counsel, the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal rejected Mitchell's appeals, stating there was no evidence to suggest the inclusion of certain evidence or counsel's actions prejudiced the trial's outcome. Mitchell was convicted on October 3, 2022, of second-degree murder and sentenced to life without parole.
