SUMMARY: The good news is that an i 10 Bridge is on track to be built, but the bad news is that there will be a toll. Senator Mark Abraham of Lake Charles has introduced Senate Bill 446 to ensure that the toll revenue collected is used specifically by the Department of Transportation for reducing toll rates, shortening the toll period, and other eligible projects in Southwest Louisiana. The proposed tollbridge would charge local drivers $2.5 and non-locals $3.75. The bill has been approved by the Senate and is now in the hands of the House for further consideration. The aim is to benefit the entire Southwest Louisiana region with the toll revenue.

One state lawmaker is seeking to limit how toll revenue from the proposed new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge can be used.

Sen. Mark Abraham (R-Lake Charles) authored Senate Bill 446.

“We need to make sure that this money stays local and is not funding something else in another part of the state. The way I figure it, the profits over a 40-year period, the 15% could be $20 to 30 million a year for 40 years, so where does that money go? That's what my most recent bill addressed,” Abraham said.
