SUMMARY: The American Heart Association emphasizes that in addition to exercise and healthy eating, following certain lifestyle habits can significantly improve overall health and slow down the aging process. By maintaining a healthy diet, staying active, getting enough sleep, not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling cholesterol, managing blood sugar, and keeping blood pressure in check, individuals can potentially decrease their biological age by up to six years. People who adhere to all eight essential lifestyle habits have higher cardiovascular health, while those with low cardiovascular health tend to have a higher biological age. It is never too late to start being physically active and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Exercising and eating right are key factors in staying healthy. But the American Heart Association says it doesn't stop there. It says following certain lifestyle habits can not only improve your overall health but also slow your body's aging by years.
